About Material Selections

Material selections define the candidate materials used in the panel or beam cross section. If multiple materials are selected, the lightest combination that passes all margin of safety checks is returned.

Material selections (candidate materials) are defined per linking group.
For stiffened panels, separate materials are defined for the skin and stringer. For beams, only a single material is defined.
For composite stringers, ply drops can be defined using HyperLaminates. See HyperLaminates.
Within a cross-section, materials can be linked. For example the material for the top and bottom facesheet of sandwich panel can be linked. See Tooling Rules.

Tasks Associated with Material Selections

Select Existing Materials Existing metallic/foam/honeycomb/laminate materials can be selected using the Material Selection form. See Adding Materials Using the Material Selection Form.
Copy Existing Selections to Components Existing material selections and be copied to components within an assembly, display set, or project. See Copying Dimensions and Materials to Multiple Components.
Generate Effective Laminates Effective laminates can be generated and applied to components with an assembly. See Creating Effective Laminates.
