Creating Effective Laminates

Effective laminates are created in batches using the Effective Laminate Generation form. To create effective laminates, select the tape and/or fabric material, and enter the ply percentage targets. With this information, effective laminates will be created and assigned to sizing variables.

How to create effective laminates

  1. In the Sizing form, navigate to an assembly.
  2. Set the material and analysis modes for the assembly:
    1. Set material mode to "Composite" or "Any". See Assembly Material Mode.
    2. Set the analysis mode to "Detailed Sizing". See Assembly Analysis Mode.
  3. Select the tape ply material. See Selecting Tape and Fabric Ply Materials.

    If necessary, select the fabric material as well.

  4. Open the Generate Effective Laminates form using one of the following methods:
    1. In the ribbon, click the desired Material tab (i.e. Laminate - Skin), and click Generate.

    2. In the Dimensions tab, right-click the variable of choice and select Generate Effective Laminates.

  5. Click Generate.

    The Generate Effective Laminate form appears.

  6. Enter the min, max, and step size percentage for each ply angle.

  7. (Optional) Select a laminate name base.
  8. (Optional) Click Review Ply Angle Rules. See Ply Angle Rules.

    Important: If the min/max angle percentage values on this form violate the ply angle rules from the Design Criteria form, the fields will turn red and EL generation will not be performed.

  9. In the lower left corner, select "Add to current material selection" or "Replace existing material selection".

  10. Click Generate.

    A message appears indicating the components that will be modified.

  11. Click Yes to continue.
  12. After the process, completes click Yes to view the Report.
