Smeared panel components are composed of shells elements that share the same FEM property/section ID.
All shell element properties are assigned to smeared panel components by default during FEM import.
Smeared panel components can model both monocoque and stiffened panels. The figure below shows how a Z-stiffened panel can be represented using a single plane of shell elements (note the shell orientations). See Analysis Methodology.
