Beam Export

Bar element (CBAR) materials and properties are exported using the PBAR or PBARL properties combined with MAT1 materials.

• PBARL properties are used if Nastran contains a corresponding section. Otherwise a PBAR is used.
• The unit weight of the beam is applied via the density of the MAT1 entry.
• The added weight of the beam is applied via the NSM (non-structural mass) field of the PBAR/PBARL entry (mass/length).
• If the beam is composite, a new MAT1 entry is generated for each beam. If the beam is metallic, the MAT1 entry is printed once.

Beam general sections are used to export beam properties. In the same manner as shells, the original beam elements must be defined using the *BEAM GENERAL SECTION option (not *BEAM SECTION). To achieve this in Abaqus/CAE, enable the Section Integration: Before analysis check box.

Important: In Abaqus, beam elements must be modeled using the *BEAM GENERAL SECTION option.

I- and T- sections

For I- and T-sections, the SECTION=I option is used.

Whenever possible, the section type corresponding to the section shape is used. All other sections are exported using the ASEC section type. Section offset options are defined on the Options tab of the Sizing form.
