How can uniaxial or grid stiffened panels with double sided flanges & stiffeners be analysed in Hypersizer?

Hi Gary,

We have a plugin package that can be used to analyze grid structure with double-sided flanges (cruciform sections).

See: https://hypersizer.com/help_7.3/#Udef/Plugin-HS_plugins_grid_stiffened.php%3FTocPath%3DAnalysis%2520Plugins%7CPublished%2520Plugin%2520Packages%7C_____3

Hi James,

is there any way to analyse grid structure with double-sided flanges without having discrete modelled stiffeners?

For example, in a general large frame assembly sizing activity, with many component panels, initially we would use "Grid Stiffened Panel Family" sizing to determine the stiffener spacing, thickness, height, etc. i.e. "Technique 1 Stiffeners Smeared into Shells".

The FE models would then start to be updated and those stiffeners modelled as either "Technique 2 Stiffeners Discrete as Beams" or "Technique 3 Stiffeners Discrete as Beams/Shell".

Thanks.
Gary.

At this time the smeared cruciform section (double-sided stiffeners) is not available. A good way to start is to use the smeared orthogrid concept. Then you can size the panels to obtain the optimum stiffener spacing. Once the spacing is known, you can model the stiffeners with bar elements and use the grid stiffened plugin package to size the grid stringers as cruciform sections to obtain the optimized height and thickness.
