ESDU 95028 determines the out of plane stress / strain distribution at a laminate edge. We have stacking rules (see attachment) to prevent ply delaminations at the edge of laminates subject to high uniaxial loads perpendicular to the free edge.
Hypersizer does not include this edge delamination analysis. Therefore in theory laminates could be configured incorrectly with potential premature failures. These failures are rare, but I have seen coupon tensile specimens configured incorrectly that fail prematurely, i.e. we do not generate the full potential of the inplane fibers. The matrix fails at the edge (Interlaminar tension).
