Stephen,

I've attached a screenshot of the sizing form for both the ortho and waffle grid concepts. The odd thing is that they both will run fine independently, but when both are selected it has a problem.

I'm using HyperSizer Pro v8.0

Hi Matthew,

Could you provide screenshots of the dimensions tab for your orthogrid and wafflegrid sizing runs? And can you please tell me what version of HyperSizer you're using?

Thanks,
Stephen

Hello,

I'm trying to run a few different grid stiffened concepts on the same components to see what comes out as the best option. I can't seem to get a sizing run without error if the WaffleGrid and OrthoGrid concepts are both selected. The sizing run completes fine with just the WaffleGrid or just the OrthoGrid, or even Ortho + Iso or Waffle + Iso. Ideally I'd like Waffle, Ortho, & Iso concepts to all be selected for a sizing run. What do I need to update?

The error I get is pasted below:

Failed Cross Sections Report

The following components were not analyzed because no cross-sections could be generated. The most likely cause is incompatible dimensions. For example, the specified stringer flange width may be greater than the stringer spacing or the specified skin thickness may be greater than overall panel height.

Thanks James. That plug in would be really useful. Should I put a formal request for this?

Not in the native failure criteria.

We could write a quick analysis plugin do evaluate ply-based strength criteria with mid-plane ply stress & strain. That would be a super-simple plugin.

Hello,

When calculating ply by ply margins using Tsai-Hill theory, it seems like Hypersizer computes strain for every ply at top, mid and bottom locations and reports the minimum margin of the three. I realized this is the reason I was not able to match the margins with what is calculated by Nx Nastran which only calculates strain at mid-plane of each ply. Is there an option to force Hypersizer to consider only mid-plane strain for margin calculation and report just that in sizing form?

Analysis Plugins / Re: Sandwich Ramp Plugin

Hi Chris,

Somehow the updated Core Ramp plugin HME documentation did not make it into the HyperSizer v8.0.54 install. We shared a link to the latest document via email.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks,

Brent

Analysis Plugins / Sandwich Ramp Plugin

The ramp plugin supplied with 8.0.54 is 5.1.  However the documentation is for version 3.3.1.

This wouldn't be a huge problem except the plugin now uses different (fewer) user constants.  This is a significant change to the plugin.

Is there an updated plugin document?

Thanks, Chris

Scripting / Re: Exporting group data from one database to another

Hi James,

In my simple example, I've got two FEM projects, both exactly the same model, but with one I set up the groups in the FEM viewer.
I've attached some screen grabs to try and show the issue we're having.

Figure 1 shows the project that contains the required group data. It is contained within the 'upper_skin' group which has components 74 and 75, both identical in terms of variable limits and effective laminates that they can choose. (I've tried it with metallics and get the same result).

Figure 2 shows the two groups correctly exported from Hypersizer, from the project called 'groups' that has the group data.

Figure 3 shows the result of importing the group data into the other project 'no_groups', where I want to recreate the group data.

Figure 4 shows the result in Hypersizer, where concepts and variables have been reset.

Any more info, I can send it on. Database is about 35mb though.

Regards,
Ruben

No, I created a simple model with each assembly having the same concepts, dimensions and materials. If I create the groups through the FEM viewer, it works fine.
