Auto create frame segements
« on: October 25, 2019, 03:40:24 AM »
I am running into issues when using the "Auto create stringer/frame segment for assembly" function. I am trying to divide a grid stiffened panel which is modelled with discrete bar elements into frame segements. The FEM (type 2 modelling) has each quad element (approx 100mm square) surrounded by 4 bars. Initially all the quads are one component and all the bars another component both within the same assembly.
When running the function the panel is divided up seemingly at random rather than into individual segments, some of the bars are split into single element lengths, others are 3, 4 or 5 elements in length.
I am selecting the Frame, Uniaxial Stiffened and Technique 2 options.

Is there a specific FE modelling technique required? Am I selecting the wrong options for the auto create function?

There are some setup requirements in your FEM prior to running the auto create utility. See below:

  • Element material vectors are in a consistent direction within a single skin or stiffener component
  • Element normal/beam +Z directions in a consistent direction within a single skin or stiffener component.
I hope this helps. Let us know if this did not fix your issue.
