panel area error (Basic) and coordinates from FEM
« on: November 07, 2013, 04:35:15 AM »
Question 1:
Using Hypersizer Basic to optimize and analyze a stiffened panel, the area of panel is a constant for any buckling span. dont know Why.

Question 2:

using PATRAN/NASTRAN to build a cylinder shell(panel), but when the module is imported to the HyperSizer, the buckling span is error, according to the FEM, the circumferential buckling span should be half circle, but the buckling span in the HyperSizer is height of cylinder, the other direction is Circumerential. when we changed the cordinates system(FEM and elements coordinates), it will be ok in the HyperSizer.
There are whether coordinate system is convention when the user build the FEM in FEA software.

Thanks

Question 1:
For Non-FEA projects, the software will always use an area of 1 square foot for weight reporting in the stress reports. This has been fixed in HyperSizer V7 so the actual panel spans are used to determine the area of the panel.

Question 2:
The recommendation is to set the material orientation vectors in the longitudinal direction (length) of the cylinder. That way, the X buckling span in HyperSizer will be the length of the cylinder, and the Y Span will be in the circumferential direction.
