Grid Stiffened Panel

(1/1)

Toakey:
Just out of curiosity,

For the grid stiffened panel family concepts, are the webs assumed to be of a specific design such as I or Z shaped. Or are they merely approximated as simple beams bonded to the panels.

Many thanks

James:
For the grid stiffened panels the webs are assumed to be integral blade webs. These would not necessary be bonded to the skin. They are made integral with the skin. Most of the time these are metallic panels so they can be extruded. To represent these panels we use an equivalent stiffness matrix so each web is not discretely represented in the FEM.

If you wish to analyze/optimize I or Z beams bonded to the skin I would suggest using the the Uniaxial stiffened panel family. These concepts to do not include transverse frames.

Hi James, thanks for the reply, exactly what I wanted to know
