These instructions apply to HyperSizer Version before 5.3... If you are running 5.3 or above, you do not need to follow these steps

Unfortunately, Microsoft has neglected to include a backward compatible DLL in Vista that is needed by HyperSizer.  This DLL needed is called “DX8VB.DLL”.  If you have a Windows XP computer, you can copy this file from the C:\Windows\System32 folder on the Windows XP computer into the same folder on your new computer.  If you don’t have that file, I can get you a copy.  After you copy it there, right click on the DOS window icon and select “Open as Administrator”, then type:

REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\DX8VB.DLL

And then press enter.  You should get a message that says that the DLL was successfully registered.  After this, you shouldn’t get that error.

Another thing that you are going to have to do is change the default location of your “Project Working Folder”.  By default, Vista does not like to allow the user to create or edit stuff in the “C:\Program Files” hierarchy… so we need to change the default location.  In HyperSizer, pull up Tools | Options, and change the “Project Working Folder” from “C:\Program Files\HyperSizer\Projects” to “C:\HyperSizer Data\Projects\Temp”.  You don’t have to use that location, but you need to change to a location outside of  “C:\Program Files”…

When you run HyperSizer for the first time you must right click on the HyperSizer  window icon and select “Open as Administrator”.

We haven’t yet worked out the new install that is going to be required for Vista yet to get this file onto the Vista machines.   Hopefully that will be coming.
