I am running full cylinder buckling on a model because I have a full cylinder. I haven't divided the cylinder into separate components yet. I was wondering if you recommend turning off the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, All BC failure analysis and turning on the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, NASA SP-8007 Method failure analysis? I recall that the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, All BC failure analysis uses the Rayleigh-Ritz method which takes much longer to run than the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, NASA SP-8007 method. Please give the cases in which you recommend only using the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, NASA SP-8007 method.

You are correct in stating the Panel Buckling, Curved or Flat, All BC failure analysis takes much longer to run since it uses the Rayleigh-Ritz energy method.  So you may turn this off and uses the NASA SP-8007 method if the panel is a complete cylinder in axial compression.  For this case the NASA SP-8007 method is a good approximation of the buckling solution.

The Raleigh Ritz energy solution is more general and will apply to more panel geometries such as:

1. a portion of a complete cylinder
2. curved or flat panels with biaxial load and in-plane shear loads
3. boundary conditions that are either simple, fixed or free
4. any length to width aspect ratio
